Asolo e le sue donne

The beauty of art, the magic of the landscape, the ideal refuge for the body and the soul, attracted many famous people to Asolo, in different times, who loved it and lived in it. Of these, there were three women; Caterina Cornaro, Eleonora Duse and Freya Stark, who were unconnected by time but deeply tied to this town. Travellers, enterprising, nonconformist and intellectuals of international fame that contributed to elect the image of Asolo as a place ideal for its beauty and its high quality.Torre Reata del Castello
Caterina Cornaro, ex queen of Cyprus, exiled to Asolo in 1489, was able to create a castle, that still bares her name, a beautiful Renaissance court. Eleonora Duse, of international theatre, used to come to relax in Asolo from the hard work of the stage and also, chose Asolo as her final resting place. Freya Stark, explorer, writer and photographer, felt privileged to set Asolo as her goal of returning from her journeys and she too is buried here, in the cemetery of S.Anna.
The extraordinary story of these three women will be explored by Alex Rowbotham, specialized in digital projections on buildings.
The story will be displayed directly on the Reata Tower of the castle with huge images that will cover the building.
The multivision of about 10 minutes, will be presented at the end of each Teatro Duse session, as a final surprise for the public, that on leaving the theatre will learn part of the beautiful story of three wonderful women that chose Asolo as a place to live.

Alex Rowbotham (I)
A British freelance photographer and multi-media designer based in Alto Adige, Italy. His production style comes from a photographic background rather than pure graphic design. Discovering the possibility of programming multiple slide projectors with sound in the early 80's led him to his love of the projected image.

Alex believes the emotions and messages created with multivision are taken to another level by using outdoor structures, such as historical buildings, as the canvas for his work. The idea to paint the Reata Tower with light using slide projectors was conceived during his first visit to Fantadia in 1999. Inspiration for this work came from the many shows and artists of this festival who, he believes, should take the credit for introducing him to the liberating power of using Watchout.

"Painting with Light" is a recurring theme and originated with a slide multivision projection in 1998 on the Tate St.Ives building in Cornwall, UK. Together with the Luce Dipinta Multivisione Cultural Association, Alex organizes a unique biannual festival, also called "Painting with Light".
